I had a dr. appt and my dr. checked me to see if I was
dilated. Stanley was still really high and I was almost 2 cm dilated. My dr. was going to be out of the
office all the next week, so he told me to come in to the hospital on Friday
the 11
th and if my cervix was more favorable he would induce
me. I expected to bleed from being
checked because I had from the previous week, but I did not bleed at all that
afternoon. I woke up that night
around 2:30am to use the bathroom.
I noticed there was pink on my underwear and thought that I had started
to bleed some from being checked.
But then I noticed I was
leaking water. My water had
broken. I woke Mike up to let him
know and started to get ready to go to the hospital. I decided to take a shower before we left and I continued to
leak some. We arrived at the
hospital around 3:00 am. We got
checked in and they confirmed that my water had indeed broken. I continued to leak water. It was a weird sensation because there
were times that were gushes and other times it was just a trickle. I still had not had any contractions at
this time. They hooked me up to
the monitors and started my IV.
They needed to monitor the baby for a time, before they could start
pitocin. At about 6:00 am they
started me on pitocin, they also put a monitor on the baby’s head. I started to have some contractions,
but they were not too bad. At
about 9:15 am, the dr. came in to talk to us. It was Dr. Bruner, the dr. on call for the day. I had never met him before but I did like
him. He told us that he was
concerned, because the baby’s heart rate was so steady. It didn’t fluctuate hardly at all, and
in a healthy baby it should. He
was concerned that it was a sign that the baby might be sick, and the best
thing to do was to get him out as soon as possible, so he could be
monitored. He decided to wait for
a time to see if things might change.
They put me on oxygen and gave me sugar water in my IV, to see if that
might help his heart rate change some.
If his heart rate did not change, they would do a c-section. I was checked again about 10:00 am and
was about 4 cm. I decided to get
the epidural, as it would makes things go quicker as well, if I needed to have
a c-section. I did not want to
have a c-section, but more so I was worried about Stanley. At 10:25 am I got my epidural, my
contractions had been a lot more intense and I had to sit up and move around to
get through them. Whenever the dr.
came in to check on me, he told me that heart rate was looking better and he thought
I could continue to labor. At
about 2:15 pm, I was 6 cm dilated.
At around 3:00 pm, I started to feel the pressure that meant I was 10
cm. When the nurse came in, I told
her and she checked and I was 10 cm.
At 3:15 I started to push and Stanley was born at 3:34pm. He is healthy and perfect. He was 7lbs
9 oz and 20 ½ inches long. He is
so tiny and so thin. The day we
were discharged from the hospital they told me he was jaundice. His numbers were pretty high. I had to follow up with the dr. and his
numbers got to be has high as 21.
He was very yellow, and there were at least 2 days that I had a hard
time getting him to wake up to eat.
But we got through it and his numbers are down to normal. We are so excited and thrilled to have
this new little spirit in our family.
